The Eagles re-signed defensive end Tarron Jackson to their practice squad on Thursday, bringing back a familiar face. To make room for Jackson, the team released quarterback Will Grier from the practice squad.
Jackson, standing 6-2 and weighing 254 pounds, was originally drafted by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft from Coastal Carolina. As a rookie, he played in all 17 games, recording 17 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble over 253 defensive snaps.
In 2022, Jackson spent time on both the active roster and practice squad for the NFC Champion Eagles, appearing in five games, including the playoffs. During the 2023 season, he was on the practice squad for the entire year. Despite competing for a roster spot during this year’s training camp and preseason, he was released during the final roster cuts.
Jackson was quickly signed to the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad, later being promoted to the active roster. However, he was waived by the Panthers on October 15 after playing in three games and logging 28 defensive snaps.
The Eagles had signed Grier in free agency this offseason. Grier, who has a history with Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore from their time together in Dallas and Los Angeles, was a third-round pick by the Panthers in 2019. He started two games for Carolina during his rookie season.
