The Carolina Panthers have traded wide receiver Diontae Johnson and a sixth-round pick in 2025 to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2025, according to a source familiar with the transaction.
Johnson, who was acquired by the Panthers in the offseason from the Pittsburgh Steelers for cornerback Donte Jackson, had been their leading receiver. He recorded 30 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns but missed the recent game against the Denver Broncos due to a rib injury. Johnson is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is enjoying a standout passing season, boasting a 115.4 rating and 2,099 yards with 17 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. Johnson will join a receiving corps that includes second-year player Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman, along with several capable tight ends.
Despite the addition of Johnson, concerns remain about the Ravens’ defense, which allowed 401 yards in their recent loss to the Cleveland Browns. With a 5-3 record, the Ravens find themselves one game behind the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North, indicating that Baltimore may still pursue additional trades before the deadline.
On the other hand, the Panthers, currently at 1-7, are likely shifting into a selling mode as they look to improve their draft positioning for the upcoming season.
