**SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP)** — The young daughter of San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward has passed away after facing heart complications since birth.

Ward shared the news on Instagram, revealing that his daughter, Amani Joy, died on Monday morning.

“She was the greatest blessing we could have asked for, and her joyful spirit made us smile endlessly,” Ward wrote. “She taught us patience, trust, and a positive perspective on life. Her strength and bravery were evident as she overcame challenges from a young age, always radiating happiness and lighting up every room with her smile. Being her parents and seeing the world through her eyes has transformed us for the better. She will always be daddy’s best friend and mommy’s little girl. We will miss and love you forever, Amani Joy.”

What Happened to Charvarius Ward's Daughter?

Amani Joy was born prematurely with Down syndrome and underwent open-heart surgery in April 2023.

The 49ers expressed their sorrow in a statement, stating they are “devastated” by her passing.

“Amani truly embodied pure happiness and brought joy to everyone around her with her sweet nature and infectious laughter,” the statement said. “We will continue to grieve alongside Charvarius and Monique, offering them our love and support during this unimaginable time.”

The 49ers are currently on their bye week.

Ward, 28, has started all 41 games since joining the 49ers in 2022 and was named a second-team All-Pro last season. He played nearly every defensive snap in Sunday night’s victory against Dallas.
