Gators Set to Lose Another Key WR to Rivals, Insider Reveals

The Florida Gators entered the fall season with three wide receiver commitments for their 2025 recruiting class. However, that group has since shrunk, as four-star receiver Joshua Moore flipped his commitment from Florida to the Miami Hurricanes earlier this month. The Gators still have four-star Vernell Brown III and three-star Naeshaun Montgomery committed, though Montgomery has indicated he’s open to exploring other options.

Montgomery has shared plans for three official visits scheduled over the coming weeks, telling Swamp247 that he intends to visit Washington on November 2, Ole Miss on November 9, and Alabama on November 16. According to sources, the Alabama visit is more tentative compared to the others. The Huskies were the latest to extend an offer, inviting the 6-foot-1, 165-pound receiver on October 17.

With a Washington visit scheduled during his team’s bye week, Montgomery expressed excitement to 247Sports: “I definitely want to see it for myself. I know a guy down here, Donovan Olugbode, who loved it and told me I had to check it out.”

Montgomery received his Ole Miss offer in December 2022 and Alabama’s offer in January 2024. Since committing to Florida in late August, he’s attended two games at The Swamp, including matchups against Texas A&M and UCF. Despite ongoing interest from schools like Penn State, LSU, Auburn, and Oregon, Montgomery reaffirms his commitment to the Gators, saying, “I’m feeling good about my commitment… The past losses don’t bother me.”

Montgomery’s interest in Florida is partly due to freshman quarterback DJ Lagway’s potential and the Gators’ willingness to play underclassmen early, which aligns with his goal of earning playing time as a freshman. “Coach [Billy] Gonzales has always told me that if a freshman is balling, he’s going to play him, and that has always stuck with me,” Montgomery noted.

Ranked No. 180 overall and No. 21 among wide receivers in the 2025 class by the 247Sports Composite, Montgomery has drawn significant attention as he evaluates his options heading into the next phase of his recruitment.
