The 49ers are still uncertain about the return of Christian McCaffrey and Dre Greenlaw from their injuries, but Jauan Jennings is expected to come back soon.
After missing the last two games due to a hip injury, Jennings is anticipated to play in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following the Week 9 bye, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. He initially hurt his hip during the 49ers’ Oct. 10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, where he continued to play but hasn’t practiced since.
Before his injury, Jennings had a solid season, recording 25 catches for 404 yards and 3 touchdowns in six games. In comparison, Deebo Samuel has 24 catches for 406 yards and 1 touchdown in seven games.
With Brandon Aiyuk out for the remainder of the season due to ACL, MCL, and meniscus injuries, the 49ers will need Jennings to bolster their wide receiver corps alongside Samuel.
Additionally, the team has rookie wide receivers Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing, both of whom have performed well in limited roles this season. Tight end George Kittle is also having a standout season and has been instrumental in the offense during McCaffrey’s absence. With these talents, the 49ers should have ample firepower to compete against the Buccaneers when Jennings returns.
