The San Francisco 49ers have announced the signing of defensive lineman Nesta Jade Silvera to their practice squad, while releasing defensive lineman Jonathan Garvin to create space. Silvera, who stands at 6-2 and weighs 315 pounds, was originally drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft (231st overall).
During his two-year tenure with the Raiders, Silvera participated in nine games and accumulated 10 tackles. In the 2024 season alone, he played in seven games and recorded eight tackles before being waived on October 21, 2024.
A native of Pembroke Pines, FL, Silvera began his college career at the University of Miami, where he played for four seasons from 2018 to 2021. He then transferred to Arizona State University for his final year in 2022. Over his college career, he showcased his skills in 53 games, making 28 starts. Silvera finished with impressive stats, totaling 161 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, four passes defensed, 3.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Jonathan Garvin, the player released to make room for Silvera, is 6-4 and weighs 257 pounds. He joined the 49ers’ practice squad on August 9, 2024. The decision to sign Silvera adds depth to the defensive line as the team looks to bolster its roster for the remainder of the season. With Silvera’s collegiate experience and potential, the 49ers hope to develop him further as they continue to strengthen their defensive capabilities.
