On Tuesday night, the New Orleans Saints announced a two-year contract extension for running back Alvin Kamara, keeping him with the team through the 2026 season. The extension is worth approximately $24.5 million, according to ESPN. Kamara confirmed the news shortly after the announcement by sharing the details on social media.
Earlier, Kamara had indicated he was willing to play the current season without a new deal. He entered the season with no guaranteed money left on his five-year, $75 million contract from 2020, which was set to expire at the end of 2025. His previous contract featured a high base salary of $22.4 million and a $29 million salary cap figure, which required adjustments to fit within the Saints’ salary cap limits.
Despite his contract situation, Kamara remained focused on his performance. He missed the final practice of mandatory minicamp due to contract discussions but participated fully in training camp. In September, he expressed his dedication to the team, stating he would continue to play hard despite ongoing negotiations. He emphasized his love for New Orleans and appreciation for its fans.
This season, Kamara has been effective on the field, with 111 carries for 438 yards and six touchdowns, in addition to 34 receptions for 252 yards and another score. Drafted by the Saints in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, he has become a key player, earning five Pro Bowl selections and being named Offensive Rookie of the Year in his debut season.
The new extension includes $22 million guaranteed, which gives the Saints the flexibility to relieve $18 million from their 2025 salary cap. Kamara has also dismissed trade rumors, expressing a desire to finish his career with the Saints, further demonstrating his commitment to the team and the city he loves.
