The San Francisco 49ers have been hit hard by injuries throughout the 2024 season, most recently losing their top two wide receivers. Deebo Samuel is sidelined with a form of pneumonia, while Brandon Aiyuk tore his ACL during the Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In response to these setbacks, the team worked out four players—Gunner Britton, Kellen Diesch, Dieter Eiselen, and Tarron Jackson—in hopes of filling roster gaps, as reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

Gunner Britton is a rookie guard who went undrafted but briefly signed with the Buffalo Bills before being released during final roster cuts. Kellen Diesch, an offensive tackle, has spent time on various practice squads, including those of the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots. He has yet to make an active NFL roster.
Dieter Eiselen, a center, had a short stint on the Chicago Bears’ active roster in 2020, becoming the first South African non-kicker to play in an NFL game. Most recently, he was with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad before being released. Tarron Jackson, a linebacker, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and has since bounced around practice squads, including a recent cut by the Carolina Panthers.
Given the 49ers’ current struggles, particularly on the offensive line, these workouts reflect their effort to build depth. Time will tell if any of these players can secure a spot on the team’s active roster.
