The Charlotte Hornets finalized their roster just before the NBA season opener, as required by league rules. A key move involved filling their third two-way slot, which had remained open throughout the offseason, by signing Jared Rhoden instead of keeping a player from training camp.
Rhoden, who went undrafted from Seton Hall in 2022, secured a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons during the subsequent season. Over the past two years, he has made 31 appearances, primarily in a limited role. Last season, he participated in 11 of the Pistons’ final 13 games, averaging six points per game and shooting 40% from three-point range. He has maintained this 40% shooting percentage across 41 G League appearances. For the Hornets, he will wear number 27.
Rhoden joins KJ Simpson and Moussa Diabate, who are also on two-way contracts. The three players will primarily play with the Swarm but may be recalled to practice with the main team and sit on the bench in case additional depth is needed during games.
With Rhoden’s signing, the Hornets now have a complete 18-man roster, including three two-way contracts alongside their regular 15-player roster.
There isn’t much to discuss regarding the roster, as the final makeup was largely expected aside from Rhoden filling the last two-way spot. A minor surprise was the retention of DaQuan Jeffries, who appeared to be kept primarily for a potential trade involving Karl-Anthony Towns. However, with a guaranteed contract of $2.75 million, it makes sense for the team to hold onto him unless a better opportunity arises.
