Breaking News: Sixers Hit with Major Setback as Star Duo Ruled Out for Season Opener

Paul George’s debut with the Philadelphia 76ers has been delayed, and Joel Embiid is again sidelined due to injury.

Both players will miss Wednesday’s season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks and could be absent for more games as they recover from injuries. George, who joined the Sixers this summer after leaving the Los Angeles Clippers, signed a four-year, $212 million contract but sustained a bone bruise on his left knee during a preseason game.

George’s return timeline is uncertain, but his injury occurred during a defensive play in the second quarter against Atlanta. Although he has dealt with injuries throughout his career, George expressed optimism, stating on his podcast that his knee is stable with no major damage and that he hopes to return soon.

Meanwhile, Embiid missed the preseason due to a sore left knee. The Sixers reported that he is progressing well with his rehab and is expected to scrimmage this week. However, he will also miss Friday’s game against Toronto and will be reevaluated over the weekend.

Despite injury struggles, Embiid remains a crucial player for the 76ers, who have not advanced beyond the second round of the playoffs since 2001. Embiid emphasized the importance of staying healthy for the postseason, as injuries have hampered his playoff performances throughout his career.

The Sixers, bolstered by George, Embiid, and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, aim to form a strong core capable of contending for an NBA title. Maxey is expected to play in the season opener after recovering from a preseason thumb injury.
