Broncos to Trade for Saints’ Five-Time Pro Bowler Amid Controversial Trade Rumors

The Denver Broncos’ 33-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 7 wasn’t enough to silence calls for an offensive upgrade, particularly in the form of a potential trade. While starting running back Javonte Williams impressed with 88 yards on 14 carries, some believe the Broncos should explore a trade with the Saints, with Alvin Kamara being a suggested target.

Denver Gazette sports editor Paul Klee hinted at a possible Broncos-Saints trade before the deadline, with Kamara being at the center of speculation. Kamara has publicly denied any desire to leave New Orleans, stating on social media, “I ain’t request a trade… so that’s a lie,” as he made his way to Knoxville.

However, the Saints’ struggles, including five consecutive losses and uncertainty at the quarterback position, have fueled trade rumors. Both Derek Carr and Spencer Rattler have faced injuries, leaving the Saints in a tough position ahead of their upcoming games against the Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested that the Saints may need to consider trading Kamara to secure future assets, especially given his hefty contract.

Kamara, currently in the fourth year of a five-year, $75 million contract, could be an attractive trade piece for the Broncos. Denver, with $3.9 million in cap space, would need to clear an additional $2.7 million to accommodate Kamara’s $6.6 million remaining salary. The Broncos have a history of acquiring ex-Saints players, with head coach Sean Payton having a close connection to Kamara.

While Kamara was held to just 24 yards on 13 touches in their recent matchup, the possibility of a trade remains. Some fans and analysts, including Predominantly Orange’s Lou Scataglia, have voiced strong support for the move, believing Kamara could provide the offensive spark Denver needs.

On the other hand, Williams, who is in the final year of his contract, has been performing well, posting his three best games in the past four weeks. With a strong backfield already in place, Denver may opt to stick with their current running backs, but the allure of adding Kamara remains tempting.
