P.J. Tucker will not be with the Los Angeles Clippers as the team seeks a new opportunity for the veteran forward.
In a statement released Sunday, the Clippers noted, “We’ve had ongoing discussions with P.J. throughout the offseason, and we’ve mutually agreed that he won’t be with the team for now. P.J. is a professional with a successful career, and he has more goals to achieve. We’ll continue to work with him and his representative to find the best path forward.”
Tucker, 39, was part of the trade that brought James Harden from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Clippers last November. During his time with the Clippers, he played 28 games, starting seven, and averaged 1.6 points and 2.5 rebounds.
In February, he briefly distanced himself from the team due to frustration over his limited role and voiced criticism of the Clippers in the media.
Tucker opted into his player option for the 2024-25 season, valued at $11.5 million, completing a three-year, $33 million contract he initially signed with Philadelphia.
Over his 13 NBA seasons with teams including the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Sixers, and Clippers, Tucker has averaged 6.6 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 36.6 percent from three-point range in 883 games (666 starts).
The Clippers’ season is set to begin on October 23 against the Suns.
