The New York Giants made several roster adjustments ahead of their Week 5 game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. They activated linebacker Matthew Adams from injured reserve and promoted wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins and running back Dante “Turbo” Miller from the practice squad.
Adams is expected to contribute mainly on special teams, where he has spent most of his six-year career. He began his time in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, followed by stints with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns. The Giants are looking for improvement in their struggling special teams, hoping Adams can provide a boost. Over his career, he has recorded 68 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits.
In addition to Adams, Hodgins and Miller were elevated to replace injured players Malik Nabers (concussion) and Devin Singletary (groin). Singletary is doubtful for the game, indicating that Miller’s promotion may mean he won’t be available. The Giants will be notably short-handed, as both Nabers and Singletary are key offensive players. Singletary leads the team in rushing, while Nabers has been a top receiver early in the season. With these losses, the Giants are likely to rely more on the running game, especially with quarterback Daniel Jones. Tyrone Tracy might see additional playing time in Singletary’s absence, with Miller as one of the backups.
Hodgins was the Giants’ primary receiving target two seasons ago but has struggled to find that same form since. It remains uncertain how much the passing game will feature in head coach Brian Daboll’s plan, though Hodgins could take on a role as the team’s WR3 or WR4, with Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt likely to see increased playing time.
The game against the Seahawks is set to kick off at 4:25 PM EST and will be broadcast locally on CBS. The Giants are hoping to secure a win despite missing some key offensive contributors.
