FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas Razorbacks are grappling with injuries at crucial positions ahead of Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. home game against No. 4 Tennessee.
The tight end and secondary positions are particularly affected as the Razorbacks (3-2, 1-1 SEC) prepare for their sixth straight game, while the Volunteers (4-0, 1-0) come off a bye and have moved up in the polls following Georgia’s loss to Alabama.
Top tight end Luke Hasz exited last week’s 21-17 defeat to Texas A&M with a back issue after a tackle. Additionally, transfer Andreas Paaske, known for his blocking, has missed the last two games due to concussion protocols.
Coach Sam Pittman expressed uncertainty about Paaske’s availability, stating, “It’s very doubtful right now, but we’ll know more Wednesday, Thursday.” Ty Washington, who had an undisclosed injury against Auburn, is also listed as questionable but played against the Aggies.
On defense, safety Hudson Clark suited up but did not play, while cornerback Jaylon Braxton has missed three games due to tendinitis and a bone bruise. Pittman noted concerns about Braxton’s status but was optimistic about Clark’s potential to play this week.
In fan news, the UA athletics department is promoting a “stripe out” at Reynolds Razorback Stadium, encouraging supporters to wear red or white according to a seating chart.
Tennessee Coach Josh Heupel acknowledged the challenging environment in Arkansas, noting, “This is a really good football team… a couple plays away from being undefeated.”
Arkansas’ recent losses include a double-overtime defeat at Oklahoma State and a close game against Texas A&M. Heupel praised the Razorbacks for their physical play on both sides of the line.
To address the injury situation, Coach Pittman indicated that practice would be less physical this week, focusing on keeping key players healthy. He emphasized the importance of mental readiness, especially with some players potentially sidelined for several days.
Tailback Rashod Dubinion has returned from an indefinite suspension and is now healthy, with Pittman expressing confidence in his ability to contribute if he practices well. Meanwhile, Ja’Quinden Jackson continues to lead the Razorbacks’ rushing attack.
