CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Carolina Panthers have added a local talent and former first-round pick to their practice squad.
On Tuesday, the team announced they signed cornerback Caleb Farley following a tryout earlier in the day. The 25-year-old has faced significant injuries since being drafted by the Titans in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, limiting his contributions on the field in Tennessee.
Since the beginning of the 2021 season, Farley has only participated in 12 NFL games and hasn’t played in a regular-season match since November 2022.
A standout from Maiden High School, Farley experienced a family tragedy on August 20, 2023, when the house where his father and a friend were staying exploded. His father, Robert, lost his life in the incident, while his friend was injured but survived. The explosion, which occurred in Mooresville, was attributed to a natural gas ignition.
About a year after this tragedy, Farley was released by the Titans at the conclusion of this year’s training camp. He remained unsigned until he reached an agreement to join the Panthers.
Currently, the Panthers have six cornerbacks on their active roster, and with Dane Jackson expected to return soon, Farley’s opportunity to get on the field in Carolina appears uncertain. Nevertheless, his signing allows him to return to an NFL facility.
Coming out of Virginia Tech, Farley was a highly regarded draft prospect, known for his impressive size and ball skills.
