Training camps are just kicking off in the NBA, but Luka Doncic has already sustained an injury. According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, Doncic hurt his calf while training in Dallas over the weekend, prior to the team’s arrival in Las Vegas for camp.
The Dallas Mavericks’ public relations team announced that Doncic will miss about a week and will not participate in the preseason opener against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. They specified that Doncic suffered a left calf contusion during workouts.
The team indicated that Doncic will be reevaluated in a week.
The injury was serious enough for Doncic to undergo an MRI.
Entering his seventh season in the NBA, the 25-year-old Slovenian star has established himself as one of the league’s top players, earning five consecutive All-Star selections and first-team All-NBA honors for five years. Last season, he posted a career-high average of 33.9 points per game, along with 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists. The Mavericks are hopeful that this injury won’t sideline Doncic for their season opener on October 24.
