Red Wings Set to Acquire Disgruntled Star Goalie from Bruins

The Detroit Red Wings are aiming to break their playoff drought, and a potential trade could see them land one of the league’s top goalies. According to PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, a user suggested a significant trade where the Red Wings would acquire Jeremy Swayman from the Boston Bruins.

### Proposed Trade Details:
**Red Wings Receive:**
– Jeremy Swayman

**Bruins Receive:**
– Sebastian Cossa
– Ville Husso
– Jonatan Berggren
– Andrew Copp
– Marco Kasper
– 2026 first-round pick

This trade would mark a bold move for Detroit, as they pursue one of the league’s best goalies, who is currently a restricted free agent (RFA). In exchange, the Bruins would gain a promising goalie prospect, an established NHL goalie, additional players, and a first-round draft pick.

Goaltender Jeremy Swayman not listed on Boston Bruins' training camp roster

Swayman has been an RFA since July 1 and has yet to secure a contract extension. The trade proposal also includes the Red Wings signing him to a seven-year deal worth $8 million annually. Last season, Swayman posted a record of 25-10-8, with a 2.53 GAA and a .916 save percentage.

Key assets in the proposed deal for the Bruins include the first-round pick and Cossa, who was the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and is regarded as one of the top goalie prospects. While he might compete for NHL games this season, he’s more likely to become a full-time NHL goalie next year.

Detroit would also part with Husso, who is entering the final year of his three-year, $14.25 million contract and could team up with Joonas Korpisalo.

The Bruins would additionally receive forwards Copp and Berggren, who could serve as middle-six options for the team. Kasper, selected eighth overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, also has a chance to make the NHL roster this season.

### Swayman’s Agent Responds
During a recent press conference, Bruins president Cam Neely claimed Swayman rejected a $64 million extension. However, Swayman’s agent, Lewis Gross, disputed this on social media, stating that such an offer was never made prior to the press conference.

“I typically don’t discuss negotiations publicly, but I feel compelled to defend my client,” Gross stated. “This was the first mention of that figure in our discussions. We are quite disappointed; this wasn’t fair to Jeremy. We will take time to consider our next steps.”

Swayman was drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Draft.

### Red Wings General Manager’s Stance
Detroit recently signed Cam Talbot and has both Husso and Cossa vying for NHL positions. However, general manager Steve Yzerman expressed a desire to maintain just two goalies on the NHL roster this season.

“I don’t envision us using three goaltenders throughout the season,” Yzerman said, reflecting on last season’s challenges with injuries that complicated their plans.

The Red Wings are set to kick off their 2024-25 NHL season at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 10.
