On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Bengals made the decision to waive punter Brad Robbins, a player they drafted in 2023. With a current record of 1-3, the Bengals are opting for a significant change at a crucial position as they prepare for Week 5. Robbins, who suffered a quad injury during training camp, began the season on injured reserve. Although he was activated off IR on Monday, the Bengals decided to part ways with him just a day later.
ESPN’s Ben Baby reported the news, indicating that the team’s confidence in rookie punter Ryan Rehkow has played a key role in this decision. “Bengals have officially waived punter Brad Robbins,” Baby announced on X. Robbins was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft, selected with the 217th overall pick. He punted 76 times for the Bengals last season, achieving an average of 44.3 yards per punt and successfully placing 20 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Rehkow, who initially signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent after a successful college career at BYU, has impressed the Bengals with his performance. The Chiefs had been in need of a punter after losing All-Pro Tommy Townsend to the Houston Texans in free agency. However, Rehkow was released after OTAs when Matt Araiza secured the punting job.
Bengals have officially waived punter Brad Robbins. Former Michigan punter was a sixth-round pick in 2023 but lost out to Ryan Rehkow, an undrafted rookie who has performed exceptional well in recent weeks.

Since joining the Bengals, Rehkow has continued to shine, averaging an impressive 58.4 yards per punt over nine attempts. He has also placed three of those punts inside the 20-yard line and boasts a long punt of 80 yards. The Bengals’ decision to waive Robbins highlights their commitment to making necessary adjustments as they strive to improve their performance moving forward.
