The Utah Jazz have added undrafted rookie forward Babacar Sane to their offseason roster, as noted in RealGM’s transaction log. Tony Jones of The Athletic previously reported in June that Sane would sign an Exhibit 10 contract with the team.
An Exhibit 10 contract allows a player to earn a bonus of up to $77.5K if they are waived by the NBA team and then spend at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate. These contracts can also be converted to two-way contracts before the regular season starts, though Sane is expected to serve as an affiliate player for the Salt Lake City Stars.
Sane, who will turn 21 next month, hails from Senegal and attended the NBA Academy Africa before playing in the Basketball Africa League. He moved to the U.S. in 2022 and spent the last two seasons with the G League Ignite, which was disbanded at the end of the 2023-24 season.
During the previous season, Sane averaged 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds over 31 games with the Ignite, shooting .445 from the field, .263 from three-point range, and .699 from the free-throw line. The 6’6″ forward also participated in the G League’s Next Up Game during All-Star weekend for the past two years and declared for the draft as an early entrant this spring.
This week has been active for the Jazz, as they renegotiated and extended Lauri Markkanen’s contract, signed Drew Eubanks, Svi Mykhailiuk, Kyle Filipowski, and Johnny Juzang, and swapped out two-way player Taevion Kinsey for Oscar Tshiebwe.
Currently, Utah has 18 players under contract, including 14 with standard deals and three on two-way contracts, along with Sane on his Exhibit 10 deal. The team plans to finalize its 21-man offseason roster before training camp begins this fall.
