Although there were rumors that Green Bay Packers’ starting quarterback Jordan Love could return from his Week 1 injury as early as Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans, recent developments suggest Malik Willis will start for at least one more game. On Saturday, the Packers officially promoted QB Sean Clifford from the practice squad.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported, “Packers elevated QB Sean Clifford from their practice squad to their active roster for Sunday’s game at Tennessee.”
Love suffered an MCL sprain during a last-minute comeback attempt in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Initially projected to be out for 3-4 weeks, recent updates indicated a potential return for Week 3. However, with Clifford joining the active roster, it seems more likely that Love will remain sidelined until at least Week 4.
The Packers are in a decent position at 1-1, following Malik Willis’ successful Week 2 performance in a 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Willis, who was 12-of-14 for 122 yards with a touchdown, managed the game effectively, despite Josh Jacobs’ 151 rushing yards being a major factor in the win.
Now, Willis prepares to face the Titans, the team that drafted him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. After appearing in eight games as a rookie, Willis was traded to the Packers just before the 2024 season for a seventh-round pick. Now 1-0 as a starter, Willis heads back to Nashville for what’s shaping up to be an intriguing “revenge game” against his former team.
