Top draft pick Caleb Williams will be missing a key target once again, as the Chicago Bears have ruled wide receiver Keenan Allen out for the second consecutive week due to a heel injury.
Allen will not travel with the team to face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. While his heel injury has been an issue for several weeks, head coach Matt Eberflus noted on Friday that it is improving. Eberflus also mentioned that Allen is dealing with a personal matter.
“He’ll be back when he’s ready, when his body allows it,” Eberflus said. “Our training staff is working hard to get him back, and Keenan has been putting in the effort as well.”
Allen, acquired from the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason, caught four passes in Chicago’s Week 1 win against Tennessee but missed last week’s loss to Houston.
Guard Nate Davis (groin) is questionable, while running back Travis Homer had finger surgery and will be placed on injured reserve.
Chicago’s offense has struggled through two games, ranking near the bottom of the league. Williams, the former Heisman winner from USC, has had a tough start with 267 passing yards, a 56.1% completion rate, and no touchdown passes. He’s also been sacked nine times, the most in the NFL so far.
