The Denver Nuggets are bringing Mike Singer, a former beat reporter for the team, into their front office, according to Bennett Durando from the Denver Post. Durando, who replaced Singer on the Nuggets beat, noted that Singer covered the team from 2018 to 2023 and will take on the role of “director of intelligence and strategy.”
This hiring is part of a broader reshuffling within the Nuggets’ front office, led by general manager Calvin Booth. Alongside Singer, Todd Checovich is being promoted to scouting director after Drew Nicholas, who held the position for two years, took a new job with the Brooklyn Nets.
Singer, who previously served as the NBA editor at USA Today, is also set to release a book titled “Why So Serious? The Untold Story of NBA Champion Nikola Jokic” this season.
The Nuggets, who won the NBA title in 2023, faced a loss to Minnesota in the Western Conference semifinals last season. Nevertheless, they are anticipated to be strong contenders in the Western Conference again, thanks to star players like Jokic, Jamal Murray, and veterans such as Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon, and Christian Braun, who is expected to step into the starting lineup following Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s departure.
While Singer’s hiring is significant, it is overshadowed by the day’s major NBA news: ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski’s announcement of his retirement to become the general manager of the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program.
