The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached agreements to sign free agents Eugene Omoruyi and Skylar Mays, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (via Twitter).
Although the contract details haven’t been specified, it’s likely that both players will sign non-guaranteed deals featuring Exhibit 9 and/or Exhibit 10 clauses. The Exhibit 9 clause provides teams protection against preseason injuries, while the Exhibit 10 clause offers players a bonus of up to $77.5K if they are waived and spend at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate.
Omoruyi, 27, has played for the Mavericks, Thunder, Pistons, and Wizards since debuting in 2021. Last season, he made 43 appearances for Washington, posting averages of 4.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 9.1 minutes per game. Despite being under contract for the 2024-25 season, Washington waived him in August as his salary was non-guaranteed.
Mays, the 50th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has played 105 games over four seasons with the Hawks, Trail Blazers, and Lakers. Last year, the 27-year-old guard split time between Portland and L.A., playing in 38 NBA games with averages of 4.1 points, 2.2 assists, and 1.1 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game. He was reportedly drawing interest from Italy’s Olimpia Milano but will remain in the NBA for now.
Mays is no longer eligible for a two-way contract, while Omoruyi has one season of two-way eligibility left. Once the Timberwolves finalize their agreements with Omoruyi, Mays, and Chasson Randle, they’ll have 20 players under contract, just one shy of the preseason roster limit of 21.
