**Plymouth** — On Thursday, Bruins captain Brad Marchand was spotted in golf attire at the Bruins Foundation’s annual tournament at Pinehills Golf Club, although he wasn’t participating in the event alongside current and former players.
Earlier this month, Marchand disclosed that he underwent three offseason surgeries and was uncertain about his readiness for the upcoming training camp, which begins next week. His rehab has not included any golf activity.
Despite this, Marchand remains optimistic about his chances of being on the ice when camp opens. Players will undergo physicals on Wednesday and hit the ice on Thursday. Marchand indicated that even if he misses the first practice, he expects to catch up quickly.
“I’m feeling good and improving every day. If I miss the start of camp, it will only be the first couple of days,” Marchand said. “Progress is better than expected. The main concern was my arm, but I’m already shooting and passing. I skated with the guys for the first time today. I still need to work on my conditioning, but overall, I’m where I should be.”
When asked about his readiness for the Bruins’ season opener on October 8 at Florida, Marchand was confident: “I’d be very surprised if I’m not ready for opening night. While I can’t fully test it until I’m in a battle situation, the way things are progressing, I should be fine for the season.”
Marchand, who turned 36 in May, had surgery to repair a torn elbow tendon, a groin issue, and an abdominal sports hernia.
Bruins coach Jim Montgomery, who was recently away, said he had no updates on other players but confirmed that Marchand is expected to be ready for the season start.
