It seems unlikely that Haason Reddick will be joining the New York Jets anytime soon, as league insiders predict the team may end up trading him.
The Pro Bowl edge rusher is still holding out due to stalled contract negotiations. The Philadelphia Eagles traded Reddick to the Jets in March for a third-round pick after he sought a raise from his $14.25 million salary in the final year of his deal.
Since the trade, the Jets and Reddick have failed to reach an agreement, leading to Reddick forfeiting around $6 million in fines and a missed game check.
Reddick requested a trade last month, but Jets GM Joe Douglas rejected the idea. However, multiple league executives told ESPN they believe the Jets will be forced to trade Reddick if no deal is reached.
“They may not have a choice,” an anonymous NFC executive told ESPN. “They wouldn’t get equal value [a third-round pick], but it’s tough to pay him now, and he clearly doesn’t want to be there. Both sides mismanaged the situation.”
Reddick, who tallied 27 sacks in the last two seasons with the Eagles, was expected to bolster the Jets’ pass rush. If he holds out for the rest of the season, the Jets will still retain his rights for 2025.
In the Jets’ recent 32-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, their defense struggled, allowing 147 rushing yards to backup RB Jordan Mason, with All-Pro Christian McCaffrey sidelined due to injury. The defense also failed to pressure Brock Purdy, as head coach Robert Saleh acknowledged the 49ers’ quick-passing strategy limited the Jets’ ability to disrupt the quarterback.
The Jets are 3.5-point favorites at home for their upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans.
