The Los Angeles Chargers have added cornerback Dicaprio Bootle to their practice squad, the team announced Wednesday on X.
Bootle, who was waived by the Carolina Panthers on August 27, joins the Chargers’ practice squad ahead of their matchup against the Panthers this weekend. He originally signed with the Panthers’ practice squad in September 2023 and was promoted to the active roster on October 11. During his stint with the Panthers, he played in eight games, recording 14 tackles and two pass deflections before being placed on injured reserve on November 22.
Bootle began his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. Over two seasons with the Chiefs, he alternated between the active roster and practice squad. He played in three games in 2021, making eight tackles, and in four games the following season, with three tackles to his name. Bootle was part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning team in the 2022 season.
Released by the Chiefs in August 2023, Bootle signed with the Panthers shortly thereafter.
Before entering the NFL, Bootle was a highly regarded recruit coming out of high school and chose to play at Nebraska. He redshirted his first year and debuted in 2017, recording 15 tackles. Bootle became a full-time starter in his final three seasons, accumulating 25 tackles, five pass deflections, and one interception during his senior year, and served as a team captain.
Now with the Chargers, Bootle will start on the practice squad. As he is not on the active roster, he is unlikely to face his former team, the Panthers, this weekend. The Chargers will also play the Chiefs twice this season.
