Though he hasn’t played since 2023, former Spurs big man and fan favorite Gorgui Dieng has remained close to the organization since announcing his retirement in December. Initially serving as a Basketball Operations Representative, Dieng has now been promoted to Assistant General Manager of the Austin Spurs.
The promotion was revealed alongside Josh Larson’s appointment as General Manager of the Austin Spurs, a role previously held by former Spur Brent Barry before he joined the Phoenix Suns’ coaching staff. Additionally, Mike Noyes, who spent six seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, was named an assistant coach and director of player development for the San Antonio Spurs.

Dieng, who played just 41 games for the Spurs over parts of two seasons, quickly became beloved for his leadership and effort. Fans are excited to see him continue his involvement with the team, and it looks like he’ll be staying with the organization for the foreseeable future.
The San Antonio Spurs say they have added Mike Noyes as assistant coach/director of player development, promoted Josh Larson to Austin Spurs general manager and Gorgui Dieng to assistant general manager of the Austin Spurs.
