Breaking News: Colts Lose Key CB to Season-Ending Injury

The Colts faced criticism for not addressing their cornerback situation during the offseason. While they re-signed slot corner Kenny Moore, they made no major moves to bolster the outside spots. That may change soon due to an injury setback.

JuJu Brents, a second-year cornerback, is headed to injured reserve with a knee injury and is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. The Colts selected Brents in the second round last year and had planned for him to start, with a competition underway for the CB2 position.

Brents played 62 snaps against the Texans, but this injury is his most serious in the NFL so far. The Kansas State product has struggled with injuries before, missing eight games last season and dealing with a broken nose in preseason. He also had ankle surgery during the offseason.

While Brents was on track to start, the Colts had seventh-round pick Jaylon Jones and undrafted free agent Dallis Flowers competing for the other starting outside corner position. Jones won the job and started in Week 1, while the team also brought in Samuel Womack from the 49ers via waivers. This move led to the release of Darrell Baker, who had started six games last season.

Flowers, who started four games before a season-ending injury in 2022, was inactive for Week 1. Womack saw playing time but didn’t play on defense. Chris Lammons contributed with 22 defensive snaps, giving the Colts another option. Given the team’s struggles against the pass last year, it wouldn’t be surprising if they seek outside help.
