After Carlos Mendoza announced that Jeff McNeil fractured his wrist during Friday night’s game, the Mets officially placed McNeil on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to September 7th. In response, they called up D.J. Stewart from Triple-A Syracuse.
McNeil, performing exceptionally well since the All-Star Break following a slow start, is expected to miss the remainder of the season after being hit on the wrist by Reds pitcher Brandon Williamson. José Iglesias will take over as the everyday second baseman, with Pablo Reyes backing him up.
Stewart, who debuted with the Mets in July 2023, was initially the designated hitter before J.D. Martinez’s activation. However, he has struggled this season, hitting .175/.326/.299 with five home runs and four doubles in 154 at-bats.
