Forward Markieff Morris has agreed to rejoin the Dallas Mavericks, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. The Mavericks, who were the Western Conference champions last season, have made re-signing the 35-year-old Morris a priority. As he enters his 14th NBA season, Morris is valued for his leadership in the locker room.
During the 2023-24 season, Morris played 26 games for the Mavericks after being acquired in the trade that brought Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. Last season, he averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
Drafted 13th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft from Kansas, Morris has had a diverse career across several teams, including the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Miami Heat.
In his 13-season career, Morris has averaged 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He has a shooting percentage of 44.5% from the field and 34.3% from beyond the arc, with 776 regular-season games to his name.
Notably, Morris was a key contributor to the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 NBA championship victory.
