The Golden State Warriors are looking to build a competitive roster around Stephen Curry to bounce back from last season’s Play-In exit and emerge as a Playoff contender. The team has made significant changes, replacing key players like Chris Paul and Klay Thompson with new additions such as Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton. However, to truly contend in a competitive Western Conference, the Warriors need to address their need for a dominant center.
In recent seasons, most of the major contenders in the West have relied on big men to anchor their defenses. The Warriors, on the other hand, struggled with their center rotation last season. Kevon Looney’s role diminished, and rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis lacked the consistency to be a full-time starter. As a result, Draymond Green often had to play center, a situation that could be avoided by acquiring a proven big man like Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks.
A proposed trade would see the Warriors receive Capela in exchange for Moses Moody, Andrew Wiggins, and two second-round picks in 2026 and 2028. Capela would provide the Warriors with the size and defensive presence they need to compete against elite big men in the West. Last season, Capela averaged 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks for the Hawks, demonstrating his ability to be a dominant force on both ends of the court. His skills as a rebounder and screen-setter would be invaluable to the Warriors’ motion offense.
The Hawks, meanwhile, would benefit from moving Capela to make room for the development of Onyeka Okongwu, a young, athletic shot-blocker. Additionally, Moses Moody, a versatile young player, could thrive in Atlanta with more opportunities. Andrew Wiggins, though coming off a down year, could still provide value as a defensive wing alongside Trae Young.
Overall, this trade could benefit both teams, with the Warriors gaining a much-needed upgrade at center while the Hawks continue to reshape their roster around their young talent.
