The Sacramento Kings faced significant injury setbacks toward the end of their 2023-24 season, with guards Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk suffering season-ending injuries that hampered Sacramento‘s playoff ambitions.
Huerter, who needed shoulder surgery, has now received an update on his recovery. The Kings released a statement on Friday, detailing his progress:
“Kings forward Kevin Huerter is advancing through the return-to-play process. He has been cleared for on-court workouts, shooting drills, and a full-strength training program. He will be re-evaluated in mid-October before being cleared for full-contact practice.”

This update is promising for Kings fans, as Huerter, one of their key shooters, is finally returning to action after last playing on March 18. He could be ready for the season opener on October 24 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
At 26, Huerter is coming off a disappointing season with averages of 10.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and shooting splits of 44.3/36.1/76.6. His sudden drop in performance was surprising, especially after a career-best season that saw him participate in the three-point contest at the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend.
With discussions ongoing about next season’s starting lineup, there is competition among Keon Ellis, Malik Monk, and Huerter for spots in the backcourt alongside De’Aaron Fox. Although Huerter has started in all but five of his 146 games as a King, his scoring ability might be most valuable coming off the bench next season.
