After months of speculation, trade rumors, and constant updates about his status at San Francisco 49ers practices, the Brandon Aiyuk saga has finally come to a close.
The resolution? Aiyuk will remain with the 49ers, as the team and the star wide receiver have reportedly agreed to a new four-year contract extension worth $120 million.

Interestingly, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the contract is the same one the 49ers offered Aiyuk nearly three weeks ago, indicating that his hold-in didn’t yield any additional money beyond the team’s initial offer.
In the end, Brandon Aiyuk accepted the same deal that has been on the table since August. 12, per league sources. His hold-in did not alter any part of his new four-year, $120 million extension. He took the same deal that had been there in previous weeks. Hold-in over. pic.twitter.com/OVocS4mbCA

Aiyuk’s offseason was filled with drama, including a hold-in, a trade request, and rumored deals with Cleveland, New England, and Pittsburgh.
For the 49ers, the most important outcome is that one of their top players is staying put for several more Super Bowl runs. While a trade may have seemed possible at times, the 49ers likely never intended to go down that path unless necessary. Aiyuk makes the team stronger, and finding a trade that would have improved the roster without him was highly improbable.
Now, the 49ers can put those concerns to rest, at least for the foreseeable future.
