Michigan has been monitoring several prospects who are currently committed to other schools, including Gian Carter, a three-star edge rusher from Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence Central, who is part of the 2025 class. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Carter committed to Western Michigan in June, but that hasn’t stopped other programs, including the defending national champions, from showing interest.
Carter recently spoke with Michigan’s Defensive Line Coach Lou Esposito. “Yes, I talked with Coach Esposito yesterday,” Carter shared with The Michigan Insider. “He was just checking in on how I was doing, asking about school, how I performed in last week’s game, who we’re playing this week, and mentioned he’s looking forward to seeing how I do this season.”
Despite his commitment to Western Michigan, Carter has expressed an interest in the Wolverines. When asked how a scholarship offer from Michigan might impact his recruitment, Carter responded, “If they were to offer me, I would absolutely consider reopening my recruitment. But right now, Western Michigan is where I’m committed, so I’m with them unless something changes.”
Carter has started his senior season strong, recording three sacks in his first game. According to 247Sports rankings, he is currently ranked as the No. 187 edge rusher in the 2025 class and the No. 50 player in Indiana.
Michigan’s interest in Carter highlights their strategy of keeping tabs on talented prospects who may reconsider their current commitments. As Carter’s senior season progresses, it will be interesting to see if Michigan extends an offer and if it prompts Carter to reassess his future.
