The Portland Trail Blazers have appointed Assistant General Manager Sergi Oliva as the head coach of their G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on X, formerly Twitter.
Oliva, who joined the Blazers as assistant GM before the 2022-23 season, will take on this new role while continuing his work with the Blazers’ front office after the G League season concludes. He previously worked as an assistant coach under Brett Brown with the Philadelphia 76ers and Quin Snyder with the Utah Jazz. Oliva’s career with the 76ers began in 2014 as a basketball operations analyst, eventually becoming the vice president of strategy before moving to Utah.
Before his NBA career, Oliva spent 12 years coaching at the youth and senior amateur levels in Catalonia. He hails from Gelida, Catalonia.
Oliva succeeds Jim Moran, who departed the Remix to become an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings under Mike Brown. The upcoming season will be the Remix’s second as a G League team, making Oliva the second head coach in the franchise’s history.
