Colts Announce First Wave of Roster Cuts, Surprisingly Releasing Key Player

The Indianapolis Colts have just announced their initial roster cuts. The team has released the following players:

– WR Tyrie Cleveland
– S Ronnie Harrison Jr.
– DE Derek Rivers
– WR Greg Ward

Additionally, the Colts have waived the following players:

– CB Clay Fields III
– K Spencer Shrader
– QB Kedon Slovis
– WR Derek Slywka
– LB Mike Smith Jr.

Released players are vested veterans with at least three credited NFL seasons and can sign with any team immediately. In contrast, waived players will go through the waiver process and may be claimed by other teams before becoming free agents. All players from both lists are no longer with the Colts.

One player to watch is Ronnie Harrison Jr., who was expected to compete for a larger role this season alongside Nick Cross and Rodney Thomas II. While Cross seemed to have secured a spot during preseason, Harrison’s release is somewhat surprising. The decision might relate to special teams needs, as safety Trevor Denbow, who plays a key role on special teams, might have edged out Harrison despite Harrison’s stronger defensive contributions. If Harrison doesn’t receive a better offer elsewhere, he might return to the Colts on the practice squad, given the team’s apparent preference for him if a safety position opens up during the season.

Stay tuned for further updates on the Colts’ roster decisions.
