BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An Alabama high school football player has died following critical injuries sustained during a game on Friday.
Morgan Academy quarterback Caden Tellier was injured in the third quarter of a game against Southern Academy in Selma, according to headmaster Bryan Oliver. The 16-year-old junior suffered a brain injury and was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham hospital that night.
Tellier’s family announced his passing on social media, expressing their gratitude for the support and prayers they have received. They shared, “Our boy, Caden Tellier, has met Jesus face to face. We appreciate all of your prayers and ask for continued support during the difficult days ahead. Caden was known for his kindness, generosity, and love, and his legacy will continue through the lives he will help save as an organ donor.”
Oliver confirmed that Tellier was an organ donor, adding that the school community is deeply affected by the loss. “There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family,” Oliver stated on the school’s Facebook page. “Caden will be remembered for his character and significance to Morgan Academy.”
In response to the tragedy, the school is canceling all sports activities for the upcoming week, including Friday’s scheduled football game against Wilcox Academy.
