As the NHL offseason winds down, the Boston Bruins still haven’t secured a top goalie for the 2024-25 season. The situation with star goaltender Jeremy Swayman’s contract has dragged on throughout the summer, and with September and training camp approaching, he remains unsigned as a restricted free agent. Bruins general manager Cam Neely provided an update on WZLX’s The Rich Shertenlieb Show on August 22, which, while somewhat reassuring, still leaves some uncertainty. “Something will get done. There’s no question,” Neely said. “Not every negotiation goes as smoothly as you’d like. I know our fans would prefer to have this resolved by now, but I’m confident both sides will reach an agreement soon.”
Swayman had a solid regular season with a 25-10-8 record, a .916 save percentage, and a 2.53 GAA in 44 games. He continued his strong performance in the postseason, leading all goalies with a .933 save percentage and a 2.15 GAA. The Bruins are aiming to secure Swayman with a long-term deal to keep him through his prime years following his recent breakout seasons. With $8.6 million in salary cap space, according to PuckPedia, Boston has ample room to finalize the contract. Despite the delay, Neely’s confidence indicates that progress is being made and an agreement should be reached before the start of the season.
