The Boston Bruins have largely finalized their roster in advance of next month’s training camp, but there could still be openings for a few additional players. Reports suggest that the team may be considering some unrestricted free agents. As September approaches, it’s common for teams to offer professional tryout agreements (PTOs) rather than guaranteed contracts.
A PTO is a temporary, non-guaranteed contract that allows players who were overlooked in free agency to join a training camp and compete for a roster spot. For instance, Danton Heinen secured a spot on the Bruins through a PTO last season.
Recent information from The Fourth Period indicates that Kailer Yamamoto is being considered. Yamamoto, 25, played 59 games for the Seattle Kraken last year, tallying 16 points with eight goals. Drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2017, he has accumulated 134 points in 303 career games.
At 5’8″ and 153 pounds, Yamamoto would bring added speed to the Bruins, who could benefit from more quickness. However, the team might prefer to allocate any available spots to Fabian Lysell, the 2021 first-round pick who is looking to make his long-anticipated NHL debut.
