Report: Nuggets Keen on Trading for Olympic Standout to Team Up with Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokic is widely considered the best basketball player in the world right now, having secured three of the last four NBA MVP awards. Last season, he ranked 12th in the league in scoring (26.4 points per game), fourth in rebounding (12.4), and fourth in assists (9.0). His standout season was in 2021-22, where he finished 10th in scoring (27.1), second in rebounding (13.8), and eighth in assists (7.9).

Jokic’s ability to run an offense as a 7-footer is unmatched in NBA history. He makes passes no one else can see, excels in scoring from the post, mid-range, and three-point range, and has no offensive weaknesses. He led the Denver Nuggets to a dominant 16-4 postseason record, culminating in a championship title in the 2022-23 season.

Recently, Jokic guided Serbia to a Bronze Medal at the 2024 Olympics, despite facing a formidable Team USA led by Stephen Curry. Even with Curry’s heroics, it took a strong effort to keep Jokic and Serbia from reaching the Gold Medal Game.

At 29 years old, Jokic could use some additional support to help Denver return to the top of the NBA. With teammate Jamal Murray struggling in the Olympics, the Nuggets’ front office is eyeing potential deals to bolster their roster. While it might not be a blockbuster trade, adding depth at a key position could make a significant difference.

Denver is reportedly interested in trading for Serbian guard Vasilije Micic, who played alongside Jokic in the Olympics. Micic was one of Serbia’s most reliable players in Paris, averaging 13.3 points and 4.5 assists per game. His close relationship with Jokic and his ability to contribute at the point guard position make him an attractive target for the Nuggets.

Although the trade could face challenges due to financial constraints and Charlotte’s need for veteran depth at point guard, Micic’s addition would provide Denver with much-needed depth and enhance the team’s chemistry, particularly with his strong connection to Jokic.
