Atlanta Hawks wing Bogdan Bogdanovic has been identified as a player the Cleveland Cavaliers should target in a trade, according to Ismail Sy of King James Gospel. Bogdanovic recently wrapped up an impressive Olympic run with the Serbian National Team, earning a bronze medal while averaging 18.3 points per game in the Paris games.
Cavs Encouraged to Pursue Serbian Olympic Standout
Since making the jump from the Turkish Pro League to the NBA in 2017, Bogdanovic has established himself as an elite shooter. Over his seven NBA seasons, the 32-year-old has shot 38.4% from three on 6.5 attempts per game, while also averaging 14.7 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game. Additionally, he has received votes for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in both 2022 and 2024. Bogdanovic’s shooting ability makes him a great potential fit for the Cavaliers.
Bogdanovic’s Potential Fit in Cleveland
One of Cleveland’s major challenges in recent seasons has been their lack of shooting. During last year’s playoff run, the team shot just 31.5% from three-point range, a significant factor in their early exit. With Donovan Mitchell unable to carry the scoring load alone, the Cavs were eliminated in five games by the Boston Celtics. In addition to their shooting struggles, the Cavaliers also have limited bench scoring, relying heavily on the inconsistent Caris LeVert. Beyond LeVert, Cleveland’s scoring depth is thin.
Adding a reliable scoring threat and three-point shooter like Bogdanovic could greatly improve the Cavs’ chances next season. Whether he would start is uncertain, as Cleveland recently signed guard Max Strus to a four-year deal and installed him as a starter. However, statistically, Bogdanovic outperforms Strus in both points and three-point shooting. Acquiring Bogdanovic would undoubtedly be a positive move for the Cavs.
Possible Trade Package
Bogdanovic is currently under contract with the Hawks until 2026, with a team option for that final year. He is set to earn $17.2 million this season, comparable to the $16.6 million owed to Caris LeVert by the Cavs. To acquire Bogdanovic, the Cavaliers would likely need to offer LeVert along with draft picks. However, the Hawks might demand more, potentially including players like Georges Niang (earning $8.5 million), Dean Wade ($6.1 million), or Ty Jerome ($2.5 million). Despite the significant package required, bringing in a top-tier shooter like Bogdanovic could be a game-changer for the Cavaliers under first-year head coach Kenny Atkinson.
