The Green Bay Packers are diligently gearing up for the 2024 NFL season, with excitement building around Jordan Love as the new franchise quarterback and a promising young receiving corps that fans expect to make a major impact.
While the Packers look ahead to the season, one of their former offensive linemen, William Ferrario, faces a different future. Ferrario, who also played for the Wisconsin Badgers, was recently sentenced to 35 days in prison following his second DUI offense in Marathon County, Wisconsin.
According to Karen Madden of USA Today, Ferrario’s sentence is relatively lenient due to Wisconsin’s relaxed drunk driving laws. However, the circumstances surrounding his arrest paint a more troubling picture. In addition to his DUI charge, Ferrario pled guilty to misdemeanor charges of intimidating a victim, bail jumping, and disorderly conduct—all related to domestic abuse incidents. As part of a plea agreement, a felony intimidation charge was reduced, and a felony stalking charge was dropped. Along with his prison sentence, Ferrario will serve 18 months of probation and has 60 days to report to jail.
Ferrario’s career with the Packers was brief. After a successful college run with Wisconsin, where he helped the Badgers win consecutive Rose Bowls and earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors, he was selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played in 16 games during the 2002 season but was released in 2003 and never returned to the NFL, despite brief training camp stints with the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers.
