SALT LAKE CITY — After a standout performance in his fifth Olympic appearance with Australia, Patty Mills is set for a new chapter in the NBA. The seasoned veteran, who previously played for Saint Mary‘s and has a 15-year NBA career, will join the Utah Jazz for the 2024-25 season. Last year, Mills split his time between the Atlanta Hawks and the Miami Heat.
Mills continued to impress on the international stage, averaging 16.5 points per game in the Olympics, ranking second on the Australian team and 16th overall in the tournament. He notably scored 26 points against Serbia in the quarterfinals, though Australia fell in overtime. Mills also achieved the milestone of becoming the fifth all-time leading scorer in Olympic history during a pool play game against Greece.
During the recent NBA season, Mills started with the Atlanta Hawks but saw limited playtime before being waived. He then signed with the Miami Heat, where he had a resurgence, playing 13 regular season games, starting five, and averaging six points per game. Mills also appeared in four of the Heat’s seven playoff games, though Miami was eliminated in the first round by the eventual champions, the Boston Celtics.
As a free agent this summer, Mills signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Jazz. Though he has never played for Utah, he has a connection with the team through Head Coach Will Hardy, who was an Assistant Coach with the San Antonio Spurs during Mills’ successful years there. Mills will look to rekindle that success as he joins the Jazz in Salt Lake City this season.
