Maryland’s football program has made a significant splash for the 2025 recruiting class by securing a commitment from Top247 safety Messiah Delhomme of Newport News, Virginia. Delhomme’s decision follows the Terps’ recent acquisition of Top100 offensive lineman Jaylen Gilchrist, marking a strong recruiting effort from Maryland.
Delhomme ranked as the No. 4 player in Virginia, had previously played at the alma mater of former Hokies star Michael Vick. Despite offers from schools like Virginia Tech and Ohio State, he chose to remain closer to home. His commitment is seen as a major win for Maryland, particularly as they lost Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators earlier this year.
The 32-year-old Delhomme has faced challenges this season, including a broken leg that could sideline him for most of his senior year. Nevertheless, he plans to enroll in college in January and aims to make an impact right away. His decision to commit to Maryland was influenced by the sense of community and chemistry he felt with the team.
Delhomme’s ranking in the 247Sports system includes a 92 rating, making him the No. 11 safety and No. 115 overall prospect nationally. His versatility, including potential contributions as a running back and on special teams, has been highlighted by scouts. Greg Biggins of 247Sports praised Delhomme’s instincts, ball skills, and football IQ, noting his ability to excel both as a safety and potentially on offense.
