The Jazz have officially signed second-round draft pick Kyle Filipowski to his first NBA contract, as announced in a press release today.
Filipowski, a 7’0″ forward/center, entered the draft after his sophomore year at Duke, where he averaged 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game in 36 starts. He shot .505/.348/.671 in his final season and earned consensus second-team All-American honors.
Although Filipowski was invited to the green room for the 2024 draft’s first night, he slipped out of the first round and was selected by Utah with the 32nd overall pick on the second day. He made a strong impression at the Las Vegas Summer League, posting averages of 16.4 PPG, 6.8 RPG, and 2.4 APG over five games.
While the specific terms of Filipowski’s contract haven’t been disclosed, the Jazz’s announcement confirms he received a standard NBA contract rather than a two-way deal, which was anticipated given his draft position. A multi-year contract with a few guaranteed seasons is likely.
Filipowski was among the last 2024 draftees to sign a contract, as the Jazz waited to maximize their cap room in case of potential trades. Recently, they’ve been using that cap space by renegotiating and extending Lauri Markkanen’s contract, and officially signing Drew Eubanks and Svi Mykhailiuk.
The Jazz now have 13 players on standard contracts, with Johnny Juzang’s reported four-year deal still pending finalization. Additionally, the team has filled all three of its two-way contract slots, so their roster is nearly set for the regular season.
