FSU Star Running Back Finally Opens Up About His Exit from Florida State

Former FSU running back Rodney Hill has had a tumultuous 2024. Originally expected to be a key player in the FSU backfield, Hill’s plans changed dramatically when he entered the transfer portal on December 13th. Initial reports suggested his departure was linked to NIL issues. Hill initially committed to Florida A&M in Tallahassee, but after head coach Willie Simmons left for Duke, Hill withdrew his commitment and briefly joined Miami as a preferred walk-on. Eventually, he found a home with the Arkansas Razorbacks in April.

Hill recently spoke to the media after an Arkansas practice, revealing details about his exit from FSU. He explained that his parents, who were managing his finances, had hired a problematic agent. This agent allegedly impersonated Hill in communications with other schools, leading to issues with FSU’s coaching staff. Hill said, “My parents got a bad agent who was texting other schools pretending to be me. When that information reached the head coach, I had no choice but to leave Florida State.”

Hill now feels he has better representation and wants to share his experience to help others. He advised, “Even if it’s your parents managing things, sometimes you need to handle it yourself. My parents were trying to help, but it’s important to take control of your own situation. To other players, I suggest waiting before getting an agent.”

The NIL landscape and transfer portal have significantly altered college football, and Hill’s story highlights these changes. Despite the challenges, Hill’s talent has led him to another major program. Many players who enter the transfer portal struggle to continue their football careers or even complete their degrees. Hill’s experience serves as a valuable lesson for others, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in his third college season.
