Former Sacramento Kings Star Guard Reveals Retirement and Sets to Become Coach

Former Sacramento Kings guard Kyle Guy has announced his retirement from basketball, but he won’t be completely stepping away from the sport. Guy, a key player in the 2019 NCAA Championship with the University of Virginia, is joining the Virginia coaching staff as an athlete development mentor and special assistant to head coach Tony Bennett.

Guy, who played for the Kings from 2019 to 2021, has spent the last two seasons playing in Spain and Greece, averaging 11.2 points and 2.0 assists per game with shooting splits of 42/35/78.

During his time with Sacramento, Guy averaged 2.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game, shooting 33 percent from the field over 34 games. He also had a stint with the Miami Heat in the 2022-23 season, averaging a career-high 3.9 points per game before moving abroad.

At just 26 years old, Guy was a standout player for the Cavaliers in college, averaging 15.4 points per game and earning the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player award during Virginia’s 2019 National Championship run.

The NBA offseason is in full swing, and the Sacramento Kings are still looking to strengthen their roster. With training camp set to begin at the end of September, general manager Monte McNair will be busy filling the team’s open roster spots in the coming weeks.
