Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Charlie Jones suffered a knee injury during Thursday’s practice and had to be carted off the field. However, there was some positive news following the incident.
According to Olivia Ray of WLWT, Jones was seen “walking gingerly” in the locker room after undergoing an MRI. Teammate and fellow receiver Andrei Iosivas mentioned, “It sounded like he collided knees with someone. I don’t think it will set him back too much.”
Jones, a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, was selected 131st overall by the Bengals. In his rookie season, he played in 11 games, accumulating 248 return yards and a touchdown, along with 64 receiving yards.
This week has seen two former Purdue receivers suffer leg injuries during NFL practices. Rondale Moore, another former Boilermaker standout, sustained a season-ending injury during training camp with the Atlanta Falcons and will miss the entire 2024 season.
Jones began his college career at Buffalo (2017-19), transferred to Iowa (2019-21), and completed his career at Purdue, where he had his best season. In 2022, he led the Big Ten in receptions and receiving yards, with 110 catches for 1,361 yards and 12 touchdowns, contributing to Purdue’s Big Ten West title.
During his time in the Big Ten, Jones was a three-time all-conference selection and earned Return Specialist of the Year honors at Iowa in 2021, amassing 635 kickoff return yards and 285 punt return yards.
Jones concluded his college career with 2,079 receiving yards, 1,002 kickoff return yards, and 620 punt return yards, totaling 20 touchdowns.
The Bengals are set to play their first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, Aug. 10, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
