Red Sox Poised to Bolster Roster with Two Key Players Ahead of Series Finale with Royals

Two key Red Sox players could return to Boston’s lineup on Wednesday as the team aims for a sweep in Kansas City.

According to The Boston Globe, Chris Martin is “likely to be reinstated from the injured list” for the final game of the series at Kauffman Stadium. Martin could make his return alongside Tyler O’Neill, who is also “likely to be available” for the conclusion of Boston’s six-game road trip.

Martin, a veteran right-hander, has been sidelined since July 3 with an elbow injury. His absence came at a challenging time for the Red Sox, but it prompted Craig Breslow and the team to be more proactive leading up to the MLB trade deadline. Martin will look to continue his strong performance, having recorded a scoreless outing in 14 of his last 15 appearances.

O’Neill, who has been out since last Friday due to illness, was initially expected to return on Monday but missed both of the Red Sox’s victories over the Royals. However, he was seen in the dugout on Tuesday night, suggesting an improvement in his health.

With another win on Wednesday, Boston could move ahead of Kansas City in the American League wild-card standings. NESN’s full coverage of the game starts at 6 p.m. ET.
