Former Green Bay Packers safety Adrian Amos has secured his next destination ahead of the 2024 NFL season. NFL insider Jordan Schultz from Bleacher Report broke the news via X, revealing that Amos would be signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, though specific details were not provided.
Amos is the second former Packers safety to join the Jaguars this season, following the earlier signing of former first-round pick Darnell Savage in free agency. Despite nearing the twilight of his career, Amos aims to contribute to the Jaguars’ defense in some capacity this season.
Adrian Amos: Does He Still Have Something to Offer?
Amos hasn’t been a prominent name in recent seasons, but the Jaguars hope he still has some game left for 2024. At Penn State, Amos was a reliable starter, playing in 48 games with 149 tackles, 16 pass breakups, and seven interceptions. Despite his consistency, he lacked national recognition and was selected in the fifth round of the 2015 draft by the Chicago Bears, a pick that proved to be highly valuable.
Amos immediately became a starting safety for the Bears and held that position for four seasons before signing a four-year, $37 million deal with the Packers. During his time in Green Bay, Amos missed just one game and recorded a career-high 102 total tackles in the 2022 season, remaining a consistent and reliable defender.
However, age has caught up with Amos, and last season he split time between the New York Jets and Houston Texans, struggling to secure a starting role. At 31 years old, Amos is hopeful to return to a starting position with the Jaguars in 2024.
Green Bay’s New-Look Safety Room
The Packers’ safety lineup has undergone a significant transformation from just a couple of seasons ago. Xavier McKinney is now the star safety in Green Bay, having signed a four-year, $67 million contract this offseason.
Packers’ General Manager Brian Gutekunst further reinforced the safety position by drafting three safeties in 2024: Javon Bullard, Evan Williams, and Kitan Oladapo. Bullard, currently projected as the starter, brings instincts and fearlessness from his time at Georgia, where he played for a two-time national champion team.
Williams has also made a strong impression early in training camp. Known for his aggressive downhill play, Williams embodies the approach new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley seeks in his players. With these additions, at least one of these new safeties is expected to quickly establish themselves as a starter during the 2024 season, marking a new era for the Packers’ defense.
